What is Dual Language?

Dual Language is an educational program where students learn grade-level academic content in both English and Spanish. Through daily instruction in both languages, students develop bilingualism, biliteracy, high academic achievement, and sociocultural competence while meeting California's academic standards.

Is Linda Verde my neighborhood school?

Linda Verde Dual Language Academy is a School of Choice. Families from throughout the Lancaster School District are welcome to apply, regardless of their neighborhood attendance boundaries. Enrollment is based on district guidelines and available space.

Who can enroll?

The primary entry points into our Dual Language Academy are Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten, with placement based on available space.

Students interested in enrolling in 1st grade or higher may be considered if space is available and will participate in a language assessment to determine the most appropriate placement within the program.

Why do students learn more in Spanish during the early grades?

Our research-based 80/20 instructional model provides students with a strong foundation in Spanish while gradually increasing English instruction each year. Research shows that developing a strong foundation in the partner language leads to higher levels of bilingualism, biliteracy, and long-term academic success in both languages.

Will my child still learn English?

Absolutely! Students receive daily instruction in both English and Spanish. English instruction increases each year until students are learning in both languages equally, ensuring they develop strong literacy and communication skills in both languages.

How long does it take to become bilingual?

Becoming bilingual is a journey. Research indicates that developing strong academic proficiency in a second language typically takes 5–7 years. Our program provides students with consistent opportunities to build language skills through meaningful instruction, authentic learning experiences, and daily practice.
